If you look closely, you'll notice that construction sites for steel structure projects usually have construction signs, which often display the words "Green Building." The fact that such signs are displayed at these construction sites suggests, to some extent, that steel structures are environmentally friendly.
First, let's understand what a green building is. It generally refers to a building that, throughout its entire lifespan, maximizes energy, water, material, and land conservation, protects the environment, reduces pollution, provides a healthy, efficient, and comfortable space for people, and coexists harmoniously with nature.
Steel structure projects meet several requirements of green buildings:
1. The main building material is steel, which is well-known to be recyclable and a renewable resource, thus reducing resource waste.
2. Compared to concrete structures or other building structures, steel structure buildings have a larger usable area.
3. During the steel recycling process, some companies in Wuhan have already achieved virtually zero water waste.
4. Because steel can be 100% recycled, it does not produce pollution, unlike other building materials.
5. Steel structure buildings can significantly save energy through modifications. For example, adding a distributed solar power generation system to the roof, using open space designs to reduce the need for lighting, and recycling rainwater from the roof.
This is likely why steel structure projects have become popular in recent years and are referred to as "green buildings."
