Why a Cold-Forming Line Matters to a Warehouse Developer in Riyadh
A steel building's primary frame gets the engineering attention-but 60% of the total component count comes from secondary members: purlins, girts, and wall studs. If purlin production is the factory bottleneck, the entire project schedule drifts.
ZSL's new automated cold-forming line eliminates that bottleneck. Supplied by a leading European manufacturer and commissioned in July 2026, the line produces C/Z purlins at 18 meters per minute with integrated laser dimensional verification at the outfeed.
What Changed: Old Line vs. New Line
| Parameter | Previous Semi-Automated | New Automated Line |
|---|---|---|
| Throughput (C-purlin) | 10 m/min | 18 m/min |
| Max Profile Depth | 250 mm | 350 mm |
| Material Thickness Range | 0.8–2.5 mm | 0.6–3.5 mm |
| Changeover Time | 45 min | 8 min |
| Tolerance Control | ±1.2 mm | ±0.5 mm |
The 8-minute changeover is the silent game-changer. On a project mixing 5 purlin sizes, the old line lost nearly 4 hours to changeovers per production day. The new line recovers that time-meaning a 15,000-square-meter warehouse frame that previously required 6 weeks of secondary member production now completes in 4.
Coating Verification: Built In, Not Bolted On
Alongside the new line, ZSL added a dedicated coating inspection station with DFT gauges calibrated to ISO 2808. Every batch of galvanized coil now undergoes automated thickness verification before entering production-ensuring Z275 coating consistency (≥275 g/m²) for every purlin that leaves the factory.
This matters because purlin corrosion is the source of premature roof failure in humid and coastal environments. A purlin that rusts through in year 8 forces a full roof replacement-costing 5–7× the original purlin cost.
Factory Footprint
The expansion brings ZSL's total covered production area to 28,000 square meters across two adjacent plants in Shenyang's Tiexi Industrial Zone, with a combined workforce of 180+ including a 12-person engineering and QC team.
