In the steel fabrication industry, surface preparation is where budgets get quietly cut. Wire brushing (St2/St3) costs a fraction of shot blasting-but it leaves micro-rust and mill scale embedded in the steel surface. The anchor profile (Rz) is the key metric. At 40–70μm, the paint physically locks into the steel surface-not just chemically bonds. Under the thermal expansion and contraction of a real building cycle, this mechanical bond is what prevents delamination.

A steel warehouse in coastal Chile or humid Southeast Asia that requires repainting after 5 years isn't a maintenance issue-it's a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) failure.
